Kootenay Lake Resort - News and Updates

Fall Brings So Much To Do!

Fall at Wing Creek brings many new activities to explore and enjoy from world-class hiking to amazing boating, fishing and birdwatching. And bear-watching!

Right now the area is abuzz with news of the kokanee spawning at nearby Meadow Creek spawning channel, which fills with the "red fish" returning home to lay their eggs and complete their lifecycle. The buzz typically surrounds the grizzly bears who are attracted by the plethora of fish just as they are thinking of filling their bellies for their long winter's nap. We spotted three grizzlies last weekend when we were up visiting the site, which is open 10 am - 2 pm each day during this spectacular viewing season.

Hikers find the cooler days a welcome relief from the hot summer sun and mushroom seekers are in their glory with so many varieties incredibly plentiful this year. So many beautiful hikes to explore whether you are looking for a short 1 km loop among old growth cedar trees, a multi-hour hike to amazing views or a multi-day hike to areas of breathtaking beauty and solitude.

Fishermen are starting to find more bountiful catches and the fishing charters who head out to the ocean for the summer are on their way back to Kootenay Lake for the real fishing season.

Prefer a peaceful paddle by canoe or kayak? This is definitely your lake for exploring hidden gems like water-access parks, beaches and waterfalls! If you are a windsurfer you may find a windy day to blow your mind on this 100+ km long lake with stunning scenery. (Bring your windsurfing gear though, we don't offer rentals here...yet!)

Kaslo Sufferfest is just around the corner (September 27 - 29) and we are proud to be sponsors this year of this fantastic and growing event. Bike races, running races and the aptly named Loonie Toonie 50 km running challenge bring many new faces to our area to discover everything we have to offer.

Musical performances, historical events and festivals are in full force throughout the area for those seeking culture and learning.

Not enough hours in the day is what we are hearing from many of our guests, some of whom are already booking their return stays for next year since they say they cannot fit everything in! At the end of your active outdoor days you can relax in your beautiful private cottage, curl up in front of your woodburning fireplace or woodstove, relax, reflect on your day of wonder and  get ready to experience more tomorrow!

We look forward to welcoming you to Wing Creek Resort at this beautiful -- and busy -- time of year!
