Kaslo Named in Top 10 Places in the WORLD to Enjoy Summer Music

Reuters just named the Kaslo Jazz Etc Summer Music Festival in their Top 10 List for best places in the world to experience outdoor summer music.

And did we squeak in at #10? We did not. We sailed in most gracefully at #6. In the world.

And what's not to like? On the sandy beach of Kaslo Bay on pristine Kootenay Lake, British Columbia, an exceedingly attentive audience gathers to enjoy -- really enjoy -- jazz and other musical genres while soaking in the sunshine, divine weather and breathtaking scenery that makes Kaslo the vacation place nobody will tell you about (because they are keeping it a secret for themselves). And the musicians get to play on a floating stage. It simply could not get better than this! Where else could you be 10 feet away from world-famous musicians, sitting on a sandy beach or enjoying a dip in what is quite possibly the nicest lake in BC.

Wing Creek Resort is proud to sponsor the Kaslo Jazz Etc Summer Music Festival year after year. Quite simply we love everything about it. One of the reasons we came to this area in the first place was because of the vibrant arts and music vibe created by this event and the many talented artists drawn to the area. Law of Attraction at work!

Organizers of the festival have attracted an amazing array of talent every year since the festival began 22 years ago, including:

  • Blue Rodeo
  • Colin James
  • Jesse Cook
  • Spyro Gyra
  • Hugh Fraser
  • Long John Baldry
  • Richie Havens
  • Jeff Healey

This year's lineup includes the Mickey Hart Band (you may remember Mickey from the Grateful Dead), Tiempo Libre and Dan Brubeck among many others.

In addition to the talent, the floating stage and the stunning scenery, the huge differentiator from other music festivals is the authentic groove. Festival goers arrange themselves, as if by magic, sitting on towels at the front and lawn chairs in behind, dancers off to the side and swimmers on the edges. In behind is the beer garden and vendors. The ambiance is as cool as the jazz.

How great that this wonderful little festival has been recognized for exactly what it is: a rare gem of authentic musicality on the worldwide stage of music festivals. Right here in Kaslo. Kudos to the organizers and hundreds of volunteers who make this happen every year!
